Description

Embark on a full-day guided tour of the ancient ruins of Mycenae from Athens, with a minimized environmental footprint. Walk through what was once a thriving center of ancient Greece and visit iconic sites, including Epidaurus and the seaport town of Nauplion. During the late Bronze Age, the city of Mycenae played a pivotal role in ancient Greek civilization. This full-day trip from Athens provides a unique opportunity to explore this legendary treasure of the ancient world. Traveling by air-conditioned bus, you’ll make a brief stop at the Corinth Canal, a 3.9-mile engineering marvel that connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Aegean Sea. Mycenae is the historical backdrop for much of ancient Greek literature, including the epics of Homer. Tour the archaeological site, where you’ll encounter landmarks such as the Lion Gate and the tomb traditionally attributed to King Agamemnon. Your journey continues to the picturesque town of Nafplio, the first capital of modern Greece and home to the impressive Palamidi Fortress. Here, you’ll enjoy a guided walking tour through the heart of the old town. Afterwards, take time to explore the cobblestone alleys and enjoy a delicious 3-course lunch at a charming local restaurant in the center of town. With its prime location, you’ll also have easy access to nearby shops, cafés, and scenic seaside spots for a relaxing break. Alternatively, guests are free to choose where they’d like to eat, with many options available nearby. The final stop of your day is Epidaurus, home to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed ancient theater and believed to be the birthplace of Asklepios, son of Apollo. The ancient theater (entry not included) is renowned for its exceptional acoustics and remains in use to this day. Visit the archaeological site with your guide to uncover its fascinating history, or simply enjoy a quiet walk through the surrounding forest, followed by a coffee or tea break while listening to the calming sounds of nature before heading back to Athens.
