A small river flowed from a source in the foothills of Lycabettus through the ancient Agora to the archaeological site of Kerameikos. Part of the river was unearthed during the excavation of the Athens Metro. Ilissos was a river god of Green antiquity and of great importance for ancient Athenians. Now the River named after him lies beyond the city but, following its route with your guide on this 3-hour walk, you’ll be able to imagine the waters flowing once again.
