Description

Journey through history to the former naval of the world on an overnight trip from Athens to Delphi. Drive past Mount Parnassus to the spectacular ruins, where you will get an in-depth tour and can explore further at your own pace at the Museum of Delphi. Day 1: Depart Athens in the morning and head to the spectacular ruins of Delphi. On the way, you will pass the 2 little towns of Arachova and Livadia, where you will take a short stop before continuing to Delphi for your overnight stay. In ancient times, Delphi was known as the center of the world and was connected to the worship of Gaia, another name for Mother Earth. Guarded by a Python Dragon killed by Apollo, who became the main god to be worshiped at Delphi, the Temple of Apollo is one of the most impressive sites in the town. Continue to the Oracle of Delphi to learn about the priestess Pythia, whose powers to tell the future became internationally known in the 8th-century B.C. Visit the preserved theater, which seated 5,000 spectators and was used for the most famous Greek plays, poetry readings and festivals. Located on the top of a hill, it rewards visitors with wonderful views of the valley below. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure and explore the modern town of Delphi, where you will stay for the night. Day 2: Relax and enjoy a free morning to shop and walk around Delphi. In the afternoon, return to Athens via the picturesque mountain village of Arachova on the south slopes of Mount Parnassus. Pick up some souvenirs of its famous hand-woven carpets, rugs and quilts, and tuck in to some of the local cheese, washed down with a glass of the local wine.
