DescriptionDay 1: Olympia Your private 3-day tour starts bright and early from Athens. Once aboard your comfortable vehicle, drive through the picturesque mountains in central Peloponnese before reaching the village of Olympia. Ancient Olympia is the birthplace of the ancient Olympic Games during the Classical Era. It is here that you will visit both the archaeological site, and choose between the Archaeological Museum of Olympia, or the Museum of the Olympic Games. Whilst here, you will also visit the Temple of Zeus, the Pelopion stadium, the Temple of Hera, the Phillipeion, the Phidias workshop and many other structures of incredible historical significance. After your sightseeing, you will stop for a bite to eat for either lunch or dinner. Your guide will accompany you to a traditional restaurant or tavern where you can choose from a number of Greek culinary delights. You will spend overnight here and enjoy some free leisure time in the evening. Day 2: Delphi Start your day with a spot of breakfast before departing from your hotel, and passing by the scenic countryside. During your drive, you will pass places like Livadeia and Thebes, both great ancient cities. Your first stop will be the picturesque village of Arachova, considered to be the most cosmopolitan Winter destination in Greece. This location is known for its ski centers, breathtaking mountainous landscape and a fantastic village full of modern tourism facilities. Your next destination is Delphi, it is here that you will visit an archaeological site containing both an ancient theatre, and museum. Delphi was the first tourist attraction from antiquity, a hot spot that was constantly busy all year round. You will visit the Oracle of Apollo, the Omfalos, the temple of Athena Pronaia, Kastaleia Spring and see some magnificent artefacts and statues, such as Eniochos the charioteer, the twin Brothers and Sphynx of Naxos. When you feel hungry, your guide will take you to enjoy a bite to eat for lunch. Whilst you sit back and relax eating traditional Greek cuisine you'll get to enjoy views of Mount Parnassus and Itea. Later that evening, drive to Meteora where you will have some free leisure time upon arrival. Your accommodation will be in Kalambaka or Kastraki. Day 3: Meteora, Thermopylae, & Return to Athens After your breakfast you will get the chance to visit the monasteries of Meteora. These locations come second in religious importance and size after Mount Athos in Orthodox Christianity. Meteora means “middle of the sky”, “suspended in the air” or “in the heavens above” and the monasteries are built on high pillars at the northwestern edge of the Plain of Thessaly near the Pineios river and Pindus Mountains. You will witness these stunning structures that have, since the 11th-century, been inhabited by Monks and Nuns. The monasteries are St. Nicolas, Grande Meteoro, Varlaam, Rousannou, Holy Trinity and St. Stephen. Whilst here, you will get to visit three of the monasteries and admire panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. After your day of sightseeing, your guide will take you to a traditional tavern in Kalambaka or Kastraki, here, you can choose upon a large number of different types of Greek dishes to choose from. Your next stop is the battlefield of Thermopylae or Hotgates and the Hot Springs, where King Leonidas and the 300 brave Spartans gave their lives for the freedom of Greece. After a day of witnessing historical and spiritual landmarks, it is time to return to Athens in the comfort of your private vehicle.
