At Meteora, you can explore the area in one day, see a number of monasteries, and relax in spectacular scenery. The drive from Athens is about four hours long and well worth it! Starting from Athens, this tour will take you to Meteora in a private car. The route is about 4 hours, but that’s not counting the time we’ll need for breaks and photo-ops at Leonida’s Monument and the lookout point by the town of Kalambaka. First, we stop at Leonida’s Monument for a short photo-op and to pay our respects to Leonidas, also known as the Lion of Sparta. The monument is dedicated to Leonidas I, who with his 300 helot warriors held off thousands of Persians—including Xerxes himself—at Thermopylae in 480 B.C., until they were all heroicly fell. Our road trip finally meets Meteora and its spectacular view of cliffs with monasteries at the edge.You’ll be able to explore these breathtaking monasteries at your own pace, taking pictures and enjoying the breathtaking views from within the complex. This is one of the most spectacular sites available within Greece, and it’s well worth exploring at your own speed so that you can really enjoy it! After the fascinating tour of monasteries we will stop here for some lunch before returning to Athens and round off the tour by taking you back to Athens.
