Description
Begin your day with a pickup from one of four meeting points in Athens: Plaka Area, Syntagma Area (Greek Parliament), Omonoia Square, or Karaiskaki Square. Board the coach for a roughly 4-hour journey to Meteora, relaxing while enjoying the Greek countryside and photographic opportunities.
Arrive around noon in Kalabaka, the town at the foot of Meteora’s rock pillars. Your local guide will join the group here. If you have selected the lunch option, you will receive a seasonal salad, main course, and water, with vegetarian and vegan options available. Otherwise, you can explore the town, purchase a snack, or rest before the Meteora tour begins.
The guided tour covers the natural formation of Meteora’s rocks, which started millions of years ago. The first monks arrived in the 9th century, and the initial monasteries were built in the 14th century. Meteora now hosts a significant complex of Eastern Orthodox monasteries.
You will see all six monasteries from outside and enter two, depending on daily opening schedules. Entrance fees are not included in the price. There are multiple photo stops at remarkable viewpoints throughout the visit.
The return journey to Athens is comfortable with air conditioning, ending at your selected meeting point.
