Description
Fulfill your Olympic dream as you trace the origins of the games in ancient Athens before firing up your muscles with a workout designed for the Olympian in you. Join this fun-filled outdoor tour, suitable for all ages, and journey through the history of the Olympic Games.
Start your day with a warm-up at Zappeion, a charming neoclassical monument in the heart of the National Gardens and the first building to be erected specifically for the revival of the Olympic Games in 1896.
Find out in detail what role the ancient Olympics played in Greek society and learn how the athletes trained as the games evolved. Hear some really old sports trivia to stump your friends and investigate how the modern games were first proposed, organized, and held in Athens more than 1,500 years after they were last staged.
Then, stretch your muscles at Athens' oldest gym with classic techniques from old events, such as the discus and javelin throw. Practice newer ones too, such as the shot put and long jump.
By the time you reach the Panathenaic Stadium (the only stadium in the world made entirely of marble), you’ll be psyched up for a truly unique experience—a race in the stadium on the hallowed track where the first modern Olympians competed more than a century ago.
