Description

Visiting Athens and Cape Sounio is a unique experience. By taking this tour you will have the chance to discover the history, civilization, and beauty of this wonderful city. This tour gives you an opportunity to observe the striking contrasts that make Athens such a fascinating city. You can see the most important monuments of Athens. You have the chance to admire the magnificent panorama of the city from Lycabetus hill at 745 ft. (277 m), then you will visit the Acropolis, the Parthenon, Thermopylae, the Erechtheum and the Temple of Athena Nike. During this tour you will also see the changing of the guards (evzones) in front of the Greek parliament and the memorial of Unknown soldier. One other stop is at the Monastiraki square, then you will visit the trilogy of our culture (the academy of Athens, the university and the-national library). Then first comes the Temple of Olympian Zeus, second Hadrian’s Arch, third the Panathenaic Stadium. The Stadium that hosted the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. Then you will head to Sounio by taking the extensive Athenian coastline at the Saronic Gulf, which starts from Faliro and ends at the promontory of Sounio. It impresses with its idyllic natural beauty. After a short drive from Athens is the 5th-century BC temple dedicated to the sea god himself, with an aura (and sunset) that continues to captivate visitors. The Temple of Poseidon in Sounion has always had a special place in the hearts of visitors. Built at the same time as the Parthenon, during Athens’ Golden Age, it wasn’t just a site of worship of the sea god Poseidon, but it was an indication for sailors returning to Piraeus that they were almost home as it is positioned high above the sea on the southeastern tip of Attica.
