Description
A full-day private tour of Athens can be a fantastic way to explore the rich history and culture of this ancient city. Here's the itinerary and sites: Acropolis: We start our day early to beat the crowds and explore the iconic Acropolis, including the Parthenon, Erechtheion, and Temple of Athena Nike. A private guide can provide insights into the history and significance of these ancient monuments. After visiting the Acropolis, head to the Acropolis Museum to see artifacts and sculptures from the site. Your guide (upon request) can offer further context and explanations of the exhibits. We depart from museum and we explore the Ancient Agora of Athens, the heart of ancient Athens' civic life. Highlights include the Temple of Hephaestus, the Stoa of Attalos, and the Agora Museum. A small break for a quick snak before we continue our tour. Next site is the Panathenaic Stadium, also known as the Kallimarmaro Stadium, where the first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896. You can walk around the stadium and even stand on the podium where the Olympic winners once stood. Next stop, The Temple of Olympian Zeus, also known as the Olympieion, is an ancient temple in Athens, Greece, dedicated to Zeus, the king of the Olympian gods in Greek mythology. Construction began in the 6th century BCE during the rule of Peisistratos, a tyrant of Athens, but it was not completed until the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century CE. The temple was massive, featuring a peripteral design with Corinthian columns. Originally, it housed a colossal gold and ivory statue of Zeus, made by the renowned sculptor Phidias. This statue was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Today, only a few of the original columns remain standing, serving as a testament to the grandeur of ancient Greek architecture. The site is a popular tourist attraction and an important archaeological landmark, offering visitors a glimpse into the rich history of Athens. Finally our last stop will be at the Syntagma Square to witness the changing of the guard ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in front of the Hellenic Parliament.Includes
