Athens Museums
The Museum of Greek Children's Art is a cultural not-for-profit project founded in 1944 by the Association of Friends. It is a unique project within Greece and actually only one of very few worldwide. Its' mission statement is to preserve, present and promote art by children in order to develop the recognition of children's creativity and aesthetics. They have already established a Nationwide Children's Art contest to get Greek children, up to the age of 14, involved with the arts media and promote the work of the project.
The museum hosts a range of temporary exhibitions which are always being rotated to get new talent being shown. These include three dimensional pieces. They also exchange pieces with museums and workshops (within Greece and internationally) who work on similar projects.
The exhibitions so far have focused on themes such as my village, Greek festivals, mother and child, kites, children and war, portraits, Athens Olympics, musical instruments and many others. They have also had the chance to design a stamp for Greece.
The museum also boasts a wide range of toys by African children donated by 'Save the Children' as well as a collection of the first drawing attempts on paper by the Kalash children and Greek children during the civil war.
