Archaeological Museum of Kerameikos
Athens
Newly refurbished, this museum displays some of the ancient world's most significant findings from nearby archaeological excavations. The primary findings are directly related to the cemetery and offer profound insight into the burial customs of ancient Athens. Artefacts include funerary urns, monuments and grave offerings, as well as excellent examples of pottery.
The museum is located inside the archaeological site and its access is from the pedestrian street of Ermou (Hermes 148), near Piraeus Street. It is a simple square building ground floor. Internally there are four exhibition halls surrounding by a covered patio, landscaped with olives and laurels as a small interior garden. The first room and patio host the works of sculpture, covering all eras of antiquity, while the other three rooms expose pottery and other finds mainly from Kerameikos necropolis.
