Zappeion Garden
Athens
The Garden of Zappeion is a recent extension of the magnificent National Gardens and occupies 83 acres of green areas, patios and courtyards. The Garden forms a true oasis in the bustling capital centre and is bejeweled by the remarkable Zappeion mansion.
Zappeion Garden was set up in 1857 with the planting of plane and eucalyptus trees. Today it attracts both locals and tourists alike, who are looking for a quiet place in the center of town to unwind and relax in. Within the garden you'll spot greenery, flowers, ruins, a cafe, and a playground for the youngsters.
The garden is particularly popular with elderly men who come during the day to play chess or backgammon, as well as kids who come for the playground, and men and women that take advantage of the quietness of the park for reading books.
Zappeion Garden is open daily from sunrise until sunset.
